The real thing where the game shines I think is the gas mask. The actual shooting though is intense, enemies can kill you with only 3-4 shots and you have to ration your ammo because its not easy to find a lot of ammo for certain guns (looking at you, pressurized air gun thingy). I don't know if it could be done any better without distrupting the flow and the immersion of the game but switching to a grenade in the middle of combat is a pain the ass (you have to bring out your notepad, and then select grenade as your secondary weapon and then you can throw it by pressing rb.). Controls are a little clunky on the controller. Sneaking is okay, enemies are literally blind if you are crouching in the dark so it sometimes takes away a little bit of fun. Throwing knives are hilariously OP when sneaking, you can one shot nearly everything AND you can pick them up from the corpses of the poor bastards. Weapon variety is okay, nothing too crazy. It's the same stuff throught the entire game, but it's really well done (apart from some animation issues) and keeps you going without making you feel burnt out. Although it wasn't really a problem and those levels were still fun. Some levels towards the ending can be slightly annoying since you can feel the climax coming but the game just throws you more levels. I don't want to go into much detail but even without playing the first game, I enjoyed it immensely. Also, your enemies can apparently speak when you're slitting their throats. Walking sound is the same, it just doesn't blend in with the environment and it loudly stands out. When you try to knife someone (without the animation) your character (Arytom) just makes a loud grunting sound which is totally unbalanced relative to the ambient sound. Ambient sounds and gun sounds are fine but the other things are really rough. Only thing that I didn't like with the general immersion and atmosphere are the sounds. Locations are creepy, dark and believeable, especially the above-ground levels are so well done, you can feel the desperation. It is kind of similar to Far Cry 2 in the sense that there aren't any menus apart from the pause menu, everything from objectives to ammo count is seen and done in-game. Your objectives are written on a notepad which you can hold with your right hand and you can make it more visible by using the lighter in your left hand. None of the loot you find glows up, you need to figure out if its something collectible (which isn't very hard since the loot variety isn't that high, also spamming X helps a ton when looting).

I played it on a harder difficulty so there weren't any button prompts, tutorials or crosshair. I don't know what its called but the way the character interacts with everything is very realistic and it adds so much to the immersion.

Unfortunately, the only Metro game in Gamepass was Last Light (and it left today) so I installed that.įirst of all, the atmosphere in the game is insane. I never got around to finish the first game, 2033, because at the time it was too scary for me, but I wanted to try again. I just finished the game on Xbox Game Pass (PC) with a controller.
